New developments in Gibraltar

Earlier this month the Government of Gibraltar released two new brochures with plans for the new affordable housing schemes. A total of 1,147 affordable apartments will be offered for sale via Gibraltar Residential properties LTD and will benefit from the co-ownership scheme offering prospective home owners the opportunity to purchase their properties at a reduced rate of 50%. In a bid to address the housing situation in Gibraltar, the allocation process will prioritise those who are most in need who are able to afford them, or those who are relinquishing property.
Bob Peliza Mews, named after the former Chief minister Sir Robert Peliza, will be situated opposite Mons Calpe Mews in the area where customs house and the north mole post office are currently located. The development will be constructed in two phases. The fist of these will be available in early 2018, and the second will be available in 2019. The development consists of 5 residential blocks consisting of a number of different sized apartments ranging from one bedroom to five bedroom penthouse units. This new development will also incorporate a number of commercial two-story units to help meet the current market demand.
The second development included in the affordable housing initiative is named Hassan Centenary Terraces after another of our former Chief Minister’s, Sir Joshua Hassan in order to commemorate the centenary of his birth, 100 years ago. This complex will include six residential blocks completed in three phases, with phase 1 expected to be completed in 2017, phase 2 in 2018 and phase 3 in 2019. This scheme will be constructed as part of the Blue Water development which includes a super yacht marina, a major internationally branded hotel and quality retail outlets, along with several bars and restaurants providing a waterfront promenade that will be available for the public to enjoy. This development provides a unique opportunity to purchase a high quality family home within an exclusive development for an affordable price. Apartments will range in size from one to five bedrooms, all of which will benefit from external balconies.
Applicants are invited to register interest at the sales office situated at 190/192 main street, further details of the application process are expected over the next few weeks.
All apartments will be constructed with energy efficiency in mind in order to reduce the overall energy consumption, these measures will include low-energy water heaters and energy saving LED light fittings, although other environmentally viable measures such as rainwater harvesting, grey water re-use and wind and solar power systems are currently being considered for the proposed developments.
